Inaugural horse driving champs prove a success

Youngsters shine in dressage and combined training

The inaugural edition was well supported, withmost of the competitors having not had a go at carriage driving before. Speaking to a competitor afterwards, they really did enjoy the occasion, learning a new equine discipline in a supportive and competitive environment. Following the action, Lib- by gavea speech thanking the drivers and ponies, the won- derful stewards, JeanMcKaig andAliExonforsupplyingthe

‘new drivers’ had to navigate their way around a course of 28 cones. The aimwas to drivewith- intheoptimumtime, keeping the balls on the cones which would incur three penalties for eachball and0.5penalties foreverysecondoverthetime. The event was the crea- tion of club chairwoman Lib- by Priest in order to increase sport participation, with en- couragement fromIsleofMan Sport andManx Horse Coun- cil.

TheIsleofManbranchof the Pony Club held a dressage and combined training at Ballacorey Equestrian Cen- tre inAndreas recently. Itwasgoodtoseesomany younger members at this event. It makes all the hard work of putting on events worthwhile when it is so clearly evident that the jun- iors are improving all the time, many remembering and riding their dressage testswithoutanyassistance for thefirst time. Itprovedtobealovelyday and the club will definitely be holding more of these events.
