TheManxMissilewasnarrow- ly beaten to the line in Aber- deen by overall winner Wout Van Aert - the man who beat him on the Champs-Élysées in this year’s Tour de France - and long-timeadversaryAn- dre Greipel. But the result in Scotland helped his Deceun- inck-QuickStepsquadseal the team honours overall for the week-long British race. Onwhatwas a goodday re- sults-wise for the Isle of Man contingent in Scotland, Cav’s fellowManxie Matty Bostock was just behind him in ninth placeforCanyondhbSunGod, while TomMazzone was 14th riding for Saint Piran. Further back, the latter’s brotherLeoncrossed the line in 33rd for the same team, while Max Walker was 42nd for TrinityRacing. Manx Hockey Association’s mixed leagues made a wel- come return to action at the weekend. With the pandemic get- ting in thewayofmixedhock- ey since the 2019-20 season, almost two years has passed since the last gameof itskind. Butwith things improving itmadeitsreturnonSaturday, albeit with a reduced sched- uleoffixtureswitheveryteam only playing each other once in the league. This means each match takes on even more impor- tance as there is no way to re- gain the points the next time youplayagainstanotherteam shouldyoudropany - thiswill hopefully lead to an exciting season. In theRossboroughMixed Premier League, all three of the expected main protago- nists for the title earnedwins on Saturday, with Bacchas A overcoming their ownB team with a convincing second- half performance despite the scoresbeinglevelathalf-time. Vikings A dispatched a handy Ramsey A side but, de- spite earning both points on offer, they know they need to improve if they want to challenge for the title, while
interceptions and distri- bution leading to a further three goals all finished by Mo. Special praise for their performances have gone to AgathaMitchellwho, at left- backforCastletown,wassu- perbinpreventingattacking threats materialising down Ramsey’s right side, as well astheaforementionedField.
