Tuesday, September 14, 2021 www.iomtoday.co.im WorkingWeek I f ‘coffee, cocktail, sleep, repeat’ sounds like an inviting prospect thenZoeGuil- fordhas just the place for you... Zoe andherwife, GemmaWasley, are the brains behind the popular Re- habSquared store inDuke Street but circum- stances have caused themto take a different direction inbusiness. ‘We’ve had an amazing last two years dur- ing the pandemic. ‘ Itwas a difficult time butwe had tremen- dous support fromthe Isle ofManGovern- ment and fromtheManx publicwhowanted to shop local,’ says Zoe. Looking back she adds that other chal- lenges during thefive years the shopwas open - which included constructionworks around the shop, high rates and other overheads - were still not enough to shut themdown. But having a baby inMay has led to a shift in their priorities and a desire to spendmore time to- gether as a family. She says: ‘The retail landscape has changed irrevocably, due to the increasing popularity of online shopping, sowe have said goodbye to our beloved shop onDuke Street, and launched theRehabSquared online shop.’ The couple are also opening twonewven- tures inCastle Street: a coffee and cocktail venue in conjunctionwith IoMFood&Bever- age Ltdwho run theHarbour Lights restau- rants, and a loftapartment above offering tourist and staycation accommodation. The downstairs venuewill be calledHen- derson&Glass, thanks to a quirky little his- toric detail they discovered in the building. by JulieBlackburn

Itwill offer ‘invisible service’, as Zoe explains: ‘It’s a conceptwe came across on a road trip inAmerica. Whenwe rented accommodation inNashville they sent us a code to get in. ‘We didn’t see anyone and in the morning therewere freshpastries and orange juice left for us. You don’t have any interactionbut there are emergency numbers you can call. ‘Itwas a nice little vibe andwe thought itwouldworkwell with the business traveller.’ With a coffee and cocktail bar on thefloor below, itwould clearly also workwell for a serious night out withno taxi required. ‘Coffee, cocktail, sleep, repeat,’ is howZoe sums it up.
